Mount Green appointed management partner for Council’s social housing scheme

Mount Green Housing Association has been awarded a two-year management contract for a brand-new social housing development owned by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council.

Supported by funding from Homes England and built by Neilcott Construction Ltd, Wheatley Court is the local authority’s first council-owned scheme to be delivered since its Large Scale Voluntary Transfer (LSVT) of housing stock in 2002.

Located in Redhill town centre, the £7m flagship scheme comprises a mix of one and two-bedroom flats. All 32 homes are available for affordable rent and will be allocated to households on the Council’s housing register to help tackle local demand.

Appointed following a competitive tender process, Mount Green already manages more than 1,600 homes across Surrey and Sussex, including 250 homes in the Reigate and Redhill area.

With deep roots in the communities it serves, Mount Green is perfectly placed to provide high-quality locally-based services to Wheatley Court’s residents. In turn this will give the Council greater capacity to deliver more much-needed social homes as part of its housing strategy.

Rob Mills, Director of Business Operations at Mount Green Housing Association, said: “Wheatley Court is a great example of how town centres can regenerate brownfield sites and buildings that are no longer being used to provide much-needed homes for local people.

“As an independent housing association, we are always looking for opportunities to increase our support across the communities where we operate, to enable more individuals and families to thrive with good-quality and affordable housing. We’re really pleased to be embarking on this new venture with Reigate & Banstead Borough Council and look forward to welcoming Wheatley Court’s new residents over the coming weeks.”

Cllr Caroline Neame, Executive Member for Housing and Support at Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, said: “We are pleased to partner with Mount Green to let and manage these new homes in this landmark housing scheme for the Council. By delivering the project ourselves, we have been able to regenerate an outdated site, contributing to our regeneration ambitions for Redhill town centre, as well as providing more affordable homes to meet local need. The homes will all be let to people on our housing register.”
