First-time buyer takes on two community pharmacies on Cumbria’s west coast

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has announced the sale of a pair of community pharmacies located on Cumbria’s west coast: F C Whelan Pharmacy and Harrington Pharmacy.

F C Whelan Pharmacy, located in Workington, dispensed an average of 8,400 NHS items per month. While Harrington Pharmacy, which lies unopposed in the village of Harrington, dispensed an average of 7,125 NHS items per month.

The pharmacies were run by two long-standing owners, both of whom decided to sell to retire.

Following confidential sales processes with Christie & Co, both pharmacies have been purchased by a consortium of first-time buyers who have relocated from the Midlands – Mr Sridhar Maturi, Mr Naveen Kumar Anisetty, Mr Varun Dara, and Mr Ananth Kumar.

The buyers commented, “We were attracted to these pharmacies as we feel we can introduce additional healthcare services to benefit the local communities. The previous owners, Nick and Linda, have run the pharmacies well for many years, which should help us implement our plans at both sites.”

Karl Clezy, Director – Medical at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, comments, “We marketed the two pharmacies separately and received a mix of offers for them both individually and as a pair. Over the last couple of years, the pharmacies have enjoyed an upturn in business, which helped attract interest from buyers located across England, with the sale concluding to buyers from the Midlands.

“These types of pharmacies, located in more outlying areas, are attracting more interest from owner pharmacists.”

F C Whelan Pharmacy and Harrington Pharmacy were sold for an undisclosed price.
