Formby Homebuilders Make May Purple for Stroke Awareness Month

The site teams at one of Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Merseyside developments have donned purple PPE this month to support Make May Purple, a campaign introduced by Stroke Association.

Construction workers at Pinewood Park in Formby dressed to impress by sporting the colourful hard hats and hi-vis vests to do their bit for the campaign, and the leading housebuilders made a £500 donation towards the charity’s work.

As part of Stroke Awareness Month, the charity traditionally asks people to help raise awareness by wearing purple and donating to support vital research into treatment and rehabilitation for stroke survivors. The theme of this year’s campaign is “A- what-sia? Let’s talk aphasia”, which is focused on the condition which affects speech and language.

As highlighted by the Stroke Association, there are 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, and 100,000 people have strokes per year. The work of the charity ensures people receive the support they need to rebuild their lives after a stroke.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes hope the fundraising and support of the campaign will help to encourage other people locally to donate to the cause.

Rhys Nicholson, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Manchester, said: “We are very happy to be supporting Make May Purple and doing our bit to raise awareness of the Stroke Association, and our team at Pinewood Park will have enjoyed the opportunity to wear purple PPE.”

Philippa Stewart, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “We’re taking part in this fantastic campaign to support stroke research and all those who have been affected by strokes, and hopefully contribute towards raising awareness of the charity and its excellent work.”
