Homebuilder Helps Foodbank to Nourish Lives in Cheshire

David Wilson Homes has made a donation of £500 to Nantwich Foodbank to help with the growing demand for its services.

Services at the foodbank have increased rapidly in recent months due to the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, and the contribution from David Wilson Homes will support the foodbank’s volunteers as they continue to help local people in food poverty.

The Trussell Trust revealed that, during the period from April 2022 to March 2023, the network distributed a record-high number of food parcels, totalling nearly 3,000,000 for the year. This equates to a food parcel being handed out once every eight seconds, and 760,000 people used the service for the first time.

With support from a large number of volunteers, as well as donations from the community and other organisations, Nantwich Foodbank supported a total number of 2,649 people in 2022, having issued 733 vouchers and 133 emergency boxes.

This year, compared to the same period in 2022, the foodbank has noticed an increase of 9% in referrals and an increase of 18% in the number of people supported.

Damien Gear, Manager at Nantwich Foodbank, said: “Many households are now facing multiple financial pressures, ranging from energy costs, inflation, in particular food inflation, and more recently higher mortgage rates. Individually, these factors cause hardship however together they create a perfect storm and more individuals and families now face the reality that they need support from the foodbank.

“It’s because of generous donations from businesses and individuals, like David Wilson Homes, we can continue to support those people in our community who need assistance.”

Following the donation, David Wilson Homes’ Sales Adviser, Houyam Rothwell – based at the nearby Kingsbourne development in Nantwich – visited the foodbank to learn how the donation will make a difference to the charity.

Philippa Stewart, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “As the UK’s largest housebuilder, it is really important that we support the community in the areas in which we build.

“Nantwich Foodbank is offering a life-changing service to its clients, and we are happy to support this with our recent donation. We wish its volunteers the best of luck for the coming months and, in difficult times like these, we’re encouraging more people to support their local community where possible.”
