Leading developer David Wilson Homes recently attended a career’s fair at Whitelands Academy to show the schoolchildren what roles in construction could lie ahead of them.

Close to the developer’s Hemins Place at Kingsmere development on Heaton Road, Tom Sambrooks, Technical Manager for David Wilson Homes Mercia, attended the school’s career’s fair earlier this year to provide insight into potential future careers.

Tom provided valuable insight into the different roles available, which bricklaying, carpentry, site management, surveying and many more.

As well as the career’s fair, the school has received a donation of £300 towards its breakfast club to help feed the pupils that attend before the school day begins.

In a recent poll by the Mirror, it was discovered that one in five parents will send their child to a school breakfast club to help ease the burden during the cost-of-living crisis. This is backed up by teachers, with 72% of those polled saying they have seen an increase in the number of pupils attending the clubs.

Idris Bowden, Attendance Officer at Whitelands Academy, said: “The Careers Fair was a great success with Year 9 students receiving first hand advice from local businesses including David Wilson Homes. We are also grateful for the donation towards our breakfast club.

“We aim provide a welcoming, safe, secure environment where pupils can eat a balanced breakfast and join in activities to ensure a great start to their great day of learning activities at Whiteland’s Academy!”

Steve Barton, Senior Sales Manager at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “As a five star developer, it’s important we set an example and demonstrate why working for housebuilders such as David Wilson Homes can make for a fulfilling career.

“We hope to see pupils such as those at Whitelands Academy getting involved in the apprenticeships offered at David Wilson Homes in the future. In the meantime, we are also delighted to have made a contribution to the school’s breakfast club.

“With the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, it is more important than ever that we reach out to local schools and offer our support. We would like to thank Whitelands Academy for their exemplary work in looking after their pupils and assisting affected families.”
