Homebuilder Fuels Ledbury Pupils’ Mornings with Breakfast Club Support

In a bid to help a Herefordshire school fuel its pupils with a hearty morning meal, Barratt Homes has donated £500 towards its breakfast club.

The leading developer made the contribution to Ledbury Primary School to support the school in its efforts to help families during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and boost the pupils’ energy ahead of a day of learning.

Research commissioned by Kellogg’s identified that 22% of parents admit they send their child to a breakfast club at school – as almost one in 10 (8%) can’t afford to buy what their kids want to eat at home.

A separate survey of 750 teachers also found that 72% have noticed a rising number of children attending breakfast clubs at school.

Julie Rees, Co-Headteacher at Ledbury Primary School, said: “We are so grateful to Barratt Homes for this generous donation. We strive to keep the cost of wrap around care affordable for our families and this would not be possible without this support. Children who have a good breakfast before coming to school are ready to learn and have better resilience.”

Matt Creed, Site Manager at Barratt Homes’ Hawk Rise development on Leadon Way, visited Ledbury Primary School’s breakfast club following the donation to spend time with the pupils whilst they ate their breakfast.

He was also challenged by the pupils at activities including table football and pool, and was able to assist with drawing and Lego as they started the day in style.

Adrian Evans, Managing Director at Barratt Homes West Midlands, said: “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and young people should have access to a meal that sets them up for a day of learning and engagement at school.

“There’s been an increased demand for breakfast clubs at schools, especially due to the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, and we’re pleased to support Ledbury Primary School’s fantastic efforts to help its pupils and their families.”
